Joe Allen

An old school American restaurant that leaves you feeling like you’re dining in a Chicago basement. In a good way, you know… classic film posters cover plain brick walls, whilst simple wood chairs surround tables covered with white cloths. Wise punters may ask for the off menu burger – small but tasty. Others will appreciate decent cocktails and house wine served by the carafe. Open late, this is a great post theatre venue or somewhere to wile away a few hours listening to jazz standards played by the ancient pianist with a lazy eye and a perma tan. They’ve started doing breakfasts as well, but god knows who would come.

13 Exeter St, Covent Garden, WC2E 7DT. Tel: 0207 836 0651. Web: www.joeallenrestaurant.com
